Καὶ ἤδη ὥρας πολλῆς γενομένης, προσελθόντες αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ λέγουσιν ὅτι Ἔρημός ἐστιν ὁ τόπος, καὶ ἤδη ὥρα πολλή·

LITV Translation:
And it now becoming a late hour, drawing near to Him, the disciples said, The place is deserted, and it is now a late hour.

Greek ὥρας πολλῆς feminine "an hour many."

πολλῆς does not mean "late." So how does the phrase come to mean "the hour is late"?
