Καὶ μὴ δυνάμενοι προσεγγίσαι αὐτῷ διὰ τὸν ὄχλον, ἀπεστέγασαν τὴν στέγην ὅπου ἦν, καὶ ἐξορύξαντες χαλῶσι τὸν κράββατον ἐφ᾽ ᾧ ὁ παραλυτικὸς κατέκειτο.

Greek ἐξορύσσω. Translating this as though it had a meaning of "dug in" or "dug through" is a gross error at best. The prefix ἐξ ex means very clearly, "out." Properly, plucked out, as in gouging/plucking out the eyes.
