Footnotes
143 | Hebrew הוא היתה אם כל חי. for himself she has become mother... הוא "hoo" is a masculine singular pronoun meaning "him/himself." Masoretes (circa 7th-10th centuries) incorrectly applied vowel points to read it as a feminine pronoun (cf. Gesenius). It means Eve, the Mother of Life is of Himself, because she is built from out of the side of Himself, and then he himself is born through her to become an eternal living one. No one understood how a masculine pronoun could be used with "Eve". Gesenius himself supposed "the masculine takes in the feminine." The idea behind this is in the mystery, "as the Woman from out of man, so the Man through the Woman" (1 Cor. 11:12) i.e. the eternal. What he builds from himself eternally, he is then born through eternally (and that can be a mother of death or a mother of life). Eve’s name in Hebrew, חוה "Chavah" is from the verb חוה, chavah. The verb means “to tell” and is also similar to the verb חיה "to live." This verb appears in a strikingly relevant verse, “Day to Day he is bubbling forth/flows (navah) speech, And her night to her night he is showing/declaring [chavah] knowledge.” Psalm 19:2 RBT.
