Genesis 20:7

RBT Translation:

And now, cause to turn back the woman of the Man, for a prophet is himself, and he is mediating-himself⁷⁰⁴ behind you, and live! And if you are nothing, he-who-causes-to-turn-back, perceive that to die you are dying, yourself, and the whole of which is to-yourself.`

LITV Translation:
And now return the wife of the man, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you shall live. And if you do not return her, know that you shall surely die, you and all that are yours.

ESV Translation:
Now then, return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, so that he will pray for you, and you shall live. But if you do not return her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.”

Brenton Septuagint Translation:
But now return the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live; but if thou restore her not, know that thou shalt die and all thine.

To Intervene/Mediate⇒“Pray”

Strong’s #6419, palal. To mediate, intervene, interpose. Basically putting oneself in the middle. This is often translated as to pray. The problem with this is the fact that the verb is mainly in the Hithpael form, which is a reflexive intensive verb, i.e. he stood himself, he turned himself, etc. The real meaning has to do with standing one’s self “in the gap” on behalf of another, i.e interpose yourself.
