And to himself was given dominion and value/honor and the reign of himself. And all of the Peoples, the Bands of People, and the Tongues are serving himself. Footnotes
Dan. 7:14 | The reflexive hithpaal imperfect third person feminine singular תִתחבל gives away the feminine noun מלכוּת as signifying a queen, as it makes little sense to say that "and his kingdom does not corrupt/ruin herself/itself". The passive rendering "be destroyed" disregards the reflexive Hithpaal. Some scholars will say that there are "seldom" or "rare" cases that the reflexive form has a "passive sense" but explanations as to why are not given. The root for חבל means properly "to act ruiniously/corrupt and not "destroy". Hebrew has other words like shadad for "destroy".
The Aramaic verb תִתחבל (titḥabbal) is in the Hithpael stem and is in the imperfect aspect, specifically the third person feminine singular form.
So, in the context of the phrase, תתחבל translates to "she is not ruining herself" or "she will not corrupt herself." |
