Footnotes

1Ki. 18:28

Translators tried to interpret this form in the infinitive to avoid the more straight-forward translation, "until Baal poured out blood"

  1. (shafakh) – Verb, Qal perfect 3rd person masculine singular

    • Root: שפכ

    • Meaning: "He poured/spilled"

  2. דם (dam) – Noun, masculine singular absolute

    • Root: דם

    • Meaning: "Blood"

Thus, שפך דם is a simple verb-object structure, meaning "he spilled blood."
