Matthew 2:22

Footnote:

8d

The phrase ἐφοβήθη ἐκεῖ ἀπελθεῖν translates as "he/she was afraid to go away from there," not "afraid to go there." The verb ἀπελθεῖν means "to go away" or "to depart," indicating the fear of leaving the location (ἐκεῖ = "there"), rather than the fear of approaching it. If the phrase were to mean "afraid to go there," it would use a verb like ἰέναι ("to go"), not ἀπελθεῖν.
