Anointed Spit from the Mouth Above
He who has spoken these ones, spat to the earth and made clay from out of the Spit, and anointed from himself,89 the clay upon the eyes.

Julia Smith Literal 1876 Translation:
Having said these, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and rubbed the clay upon the eyes of the blind,
LITV Translation:
Saying these things, He spat on the ground and made clay out of the spittle, and anointed clay on the blind one's eyes.
ESV Translation:
Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man’s eyes with the mud

Greek καὶ ἐπέθηκεν αὐτοῦ. "epechrisen" means "to anoint upon" and is derived from χρίω chrió from which we get Χριστός Christos "Anointed One" (Christ). Here it is connected to a genitive αὐτοῦ "of himself" and thus is means either "of himself" or "from himself."
