John 1:7

Οὗτος ἦλθεν εἰς μαρτυρίαν, ἵνα μαρτυρήσῃ περὶ τοῦ φωτός, ἵνα πάντες πιστεύσωσι δι᾽ αὐτοῦ.

He came into a testament, so that he might bear witness around to¹⁴ the Light, so that all might trust through himself.

Julia Smith Literal 1876 Translation:
This came for testimony, that he might testify concerning the Light, that all might believe through him.

LITV Translation:
He came for a witness, that he might witness concerning the Light, that all might believe through Him.

ESV Translation:
He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him.

Strong’s #G4012, peri. Around, all-around. From which we get the word periscope. With the genitive case it means properly, "from around" though translators have interpreted the genitive as "about" or "concerning." It is used over 300 times in the NT.
