The Confession

The Greek Ἐγὼ οὐκ εἰμὶ ὁ Χριστός, I am not myself, the Anointed one.  Hidden in plain sight are these words, where order can make all the difference. In Ancient Greek if one wanted to say "I am not being myself" there is really only one way to write it. But the flexibility of the Greek means that anyone could read this in essentially whatever order they wanted. Yet the order of these words here is atypical, "Myself not I am being the Christ" and is definitely begging to be looked much closer since οὐκ εἰμὶ ὁ Χριστός "not I am the Christ" is plenty sufficient Greek to satisfy the carnal bias.
