1099 | Strong’s #464, Eliphaz. From el and paz, God of fine gold/pure gold/refined gold. |
1100 | Friend of God Strong’s #7467, Reu’el. Friend of God. What did it mean to be a “friend of God”? This is the name given to Moses’ father-in-law and Moses himself is referred to as a friend of God in the context that God would speak to Moses “face to face” in Ex. 33:11. Theophilus, to whom Luke writes in Acts 1:1, means “friend of God” in the Greek and is an unknown character. Whatever it means, the context of Exodus 33:11 puts the emphasis on “face to face” or literally, “faces toward faces” which is also a saying emphasized by Paul, “For now we are looking through a mirror, in an enigma. However then face towards face. For now I am recognizing from out of a portion; however then I will recognize as also I have been recognized.” 1 Corinthians 13:12 literal This would seem to insinuate that face to face is something that stands in direct contrast to “an enigma”. |
