Julia Smith Literal 1876 Translation:
These the generations of Shem: Shem the son of a hundred years, and he will beget Arphaeshad, two years after the flood.
LITV Translation:
These are the generations of Shem: Shem was a son of a hundred years and fathered Arpachshad two years after the flood.
ESV Translation:
These are the generations of Shem. When Shem was 100 years old, he fathered Arpachshad two years after the flood.
Brenton Septuagint Translation:
And these are the generations of Shem: and Shem was a hundred years old when he begot Arpachshad, the second year after the flood.

"generations of name name"

There is no conjunctive-waw "and" between Shem Shem. 

So "And Shem" is not accurate.

As a compound, ארפכשד describes Chaldeans (Chesedim). Who were the Chaldeans? Magicians, astrologers, sooth sayers of Babel.
