Chapter 2
1 John 2:19
Ἐξ ἡμῶν ἐξῆλθον, ἀλλ᾽ οὐκ ἦσαν ἐξ ἡμῶν· εἰ γὰρ ἦσαν ἐξ ἡμῶν, μεμενήκεισαν ἂν μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν· ἀλλ᾽ ἵνα φανερωθῶσιν ὅτι οὐκ εἰσὶ πάντες ἐξ ἡμῶν.

RBT Translation:
They went out from out of ourselves, but they were not being from out of ourselves, for if they were being from out of ourselves they would have stayed in company with ourselves, but in order that they might be made manifest4 because they are not all being from out of ourselves.
LITV Translation:
They went out from us, but they were not of us. For if they were of us, they would have remained with us; but they left so that it might be revealed that they all are not of us.
They went out from us, but they were not of us. For if they were of us, they would have remained with us; but they left so that it might be revealed that they all are not of us.
ESV Translation:
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.
Footnotes
4 | Greek φανερωθῶσιν is a third person plural word, "That they might be revealed" or "so that they might become manifest." The translation of "it might be revealed" assumes some singular subject. But there is none. In fact it is the context itself that is used as a "singular" subject and this is enough reason for translators to not translate it as the plural. φανερωθῇ (phanerōthē) – This is the aorist subjunctive passive form of φανερόω (to reveal, make appear, manifest), used for singular subjects.
